The Oncology Institute in the R. Moldova received tests worth 229 thousand lei from the Hoffman La Roche subsidiary. The tests offered to the Oncology Institute will be of real use to their patients. So, a lot of the women diagnosed with cancer of the HER2 receptors that had to take the HERCEPTEST tests in Kiev, Bucharest or Moscow will now be able to take them in Chisinau. At the same time, the tests for the CD 20 anti-corps will allow the diagnosis of lymphomas and the respective more efficient treatment of these. Previously, with the help Hoffman La Roche, two specialists from the R. Moldova took part in an induction course in the Targos Center for molecular pathology in Kassel, Germany, where during a week, they studied the methods and technologies for the execution of the tests. The specialists claim that Herceptin is a human anti-corps elaborated to block the function of HER2, the protein produced by specific genes, which generates cancer. It is efficient in the treatment of cancer at an initial stage, but has also proved the prolongation of life for women with advanced cancer. As of 1998, Herceptin has been used to treat 230 thousand women with breast cancer HER2 in the whole world.
