Handling the mechanism for European integration of Moldova by a single institution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI), is insufficient. All the state structures and the entire society must see clearly their mission regarding Moldova’s progress towards the EU, President Vladimir Voronin stated at the sitting of MFAEI College, presidential press service reports, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the cited source, Voronin requested to distribute to all central authorities terms of references regarding the implementation of the EU standards, and have a subsequent assessment of the results in late 2007. In addition, the president sought from the Moldovan diplomatic missions, especially from those residing in the EU states to show increased efficiency. Voronin voiced Moldova’s interest in taking over the experience of the Scandinavian and Baltic countries, as well as of the Central Europe states regarding the process of European integration. Broaching the topic concerning the relations with Romania, the head of state recalled the issue regarding the resumption of the negotiations on signing the Political Agreement and of the Border Agreement between the two states. Making references to certain inconveniences of the European Neighbourhood that citizens and business community in Moldova confront with after Romania and Bulgaria became EU members, Voronin reiterated the idea that Moldovan citizens should enjoy the same the rights when travelling Romanian citizens do. On the other hand, the president qualified the relations between Moldova and CIS as important. In the context, Vladimir Voronin noted the existence of some strategic partnership relations with the Russian Federation, emphasising this country’s role as mediator in solving the Transnistrian dispute.
