The decision of July 31 concerning the election of a new chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) has not been published in the Official Gazette because a new Council’s meeting is expected, at which the former chairman, Corneliu Mihalache, will request that the Council re-votes the issue. This is how the newly-elected BCC Chair Vlad Turcanu explains the fact that not even today’s issue of the Official Gazette has published the decision concerning his appointment. “If a one-page BCC decision is not published for more than a month and a half, then how do you expect that the provisions of the Broadcasting Code will be implemented?!”, Vlad Turcanu told Info-Prim Neo Vlad. Turcanu claims that he doesn’t want to enter into conflict with the editorial office of the Gazette; he will rather wait to see how this is all going to go. In his words, BCC could meet next Tuesday of Wednesday, and Mihalache is likely to demand a repeated voting on that decision. Asked by Info-Prim Neo, Corneliu Mihalache mentioned two solutions: either he will challenge the decision in court, if it is published in the Gazette, or he will request that the decision is re-voted. According to Mihalache, the statute of BCC allows him to repeat the voting procedure for any decision taken by the Council, except those concerning radio and TV frequencies, if he is endorsed by the chairman or two-thirds of the members. Simion Ropot, the editor-in-chef of the Official Gazette, couldn’t be found to comment on the situation.
