The adoption of children from the R. Moldova will be regulated through a special law. The executive approved, during a meeting on Wednesday, August 30, a bill in this respect.
The bill regarding adoption constitutes of 10 chapters and 62 articles, which establish the basic principles of adoption and the legal status, the required procedures regarding the acceptance of adoption, the cases in which it can be seized etc.
According to the bill, a person can be up for adoption only until the age of 18, with the exception of those who receive complete acceptance to do so. Persons wishing to adopt children must be at least 25 years of age and at least 18 years older than the person they wish to adopt.
According to the authors of the bill, the necessity of this project is conditioned by the lack, within the legal framework of the R. Moldova, of clear and necessary regulations in this field, which could guarantee certain conditions for the children left without parental care.
According to statistic data, during the period 2002-2004, the judicial system has granted 758 national adoptions and 149 international ones. Most international adoptions have been carried out by citizens of the USA – 75, and 20 each by citizens of Italy and Israel etc.
