If until recently, objects discovered during archaeological diggings had to be sent abroad for restoration and dating, these works are now possible in Moldova. Elena Postica, vice director the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova, told Info-Prim Neo that previously the artifacts were sent to Romania or Russia for restoration or certification. Things changed thanks to help from United Kingdom for the purchase of modern equipment. Another source of aid are European foundations that help cultural institutions in Moldova. Several workshops for the restoration of paper, wood and other objects have already been opened in the museum. Asked about the number of visitors, Elena Postica said that 70,000 people visited the National Museum of Archeology and History in 2011. The figure was lower in 2010, only 46,000. She says that the number of visitors grows due to the major events organized by the institution. In 2011, the National Museum of Archeology and History spent over 124,000 lei for the restoration and preservation of exhibits in the museum and of national heritage objects. In the first 9 months of 2012, 92,000 lei have been spent for this purpose.
