Constitutional law expert Teodor Cârnaț has announced his intention to compete independently for the post of mayor of the municipality of Chisinau in the November 5 local elections. He aims to ensure full transparency in the decision-making process in the local public administration, zero corruption in administration and the provision of support to families that want children, including the de-bureaucratization of the adoption process.

“Most of you know me. However, I will present myself. I’m a doctor habilitate of law, a university professor. I studied law and also have economic studies. During many years, I practiced as a lawyer and today I work at the Moldova State University. Dear residents of the municipality of Chisinau, I must tell you that the municipality is not foreign to me as I earlier was a member of the Municipal Council and I know the problems faced by the City Hall,” Teodor Cârnaț stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

According to him, the main reason why he decided to become involved in this struggle for the mayoralty is the wish to do everything possible for the young people to stay in the Republic of Moldova and to find a place here, in their country. “We are a team of competent, intelligent professionals who say that the main city, the metropolis, must vibrate with events and hopes. We have high hopes for Chisinau,” said Teodor Cârnaț.

He noted that he owes a lot to this city where he studied and developed as a civil activist, where he works and where he met his wife together with whom he raises nine children. “As a mayor, I will make so that the people in this city, Chisinau, know each other and help each other as inside a big family. As a mayor, I will think how to protect our children, who are the future of Chisinau, when they go and return home from kindergarten, school, university. This will be a daily preoccupation,” stated Teodor Cârnaț.

He is for relocating the military units based in Chisinau and for founding the municipal police that would ensure the inhabitants’ safety. According to him, culture and religion are important aspects that play an essential role in the architecture of the city.

Teodor Cârnaț also said that he will ask for subscription lists and will collect signatures in support of his candidacy, as it is required in the case of independent candidates. “The independent candidates and the representatives of political parties are in unequal conditions as the first need to collect these signatures. But I intentionally decided to follow this path. I had a number of proposals to run for mayor general on behalf of political parties. But I refused as I do not want to later have obligations towards the party members,” stated Teodor Cârnaț.
