Temperatures expected to plunge by 10°C below norm

The weather will grow much colder towards this weekend. The temperatures will drop to -16°C, by 10°C bellow the norm for this period of the year, said the head of the Forecasts Division of the State Hydrometeorological Service Ghennady Roșca.

Roșca stated for IPN that the sudden decrease in temperatures is caused by the arctic air masses that are now crossing northern Europe and this Friday will enter the Republic of Moldova.

A yellow code advisory for sleet and ice on the roads was issued for February 8-9. On February 11, there will be sleet and snow in parts and it will rain slightly in southern Moldova. It will snow in the northern districts of the country on February 12.

The frostiest day of February 8 on record was in 1976, when -26°C were recorded in Briceni. The warmest day of February 8 was in 2001, when there were +15°C in Cahul.
