The Lyceum “Mircea Eliade” and its director Grigore Vasilache are the target of media attacks aimed at denigrating them. In a news conference at IPN, a number of teachers, parents and students said the institution’s former principal, who was dismissed in 2013, made everything possible for the lyceum to be closed. The teachers consider that somebody wants to appropriate the buildings of the lyceum, which are situated in the center of Chisinau.

The teachers staged a news conference to inform that the lyceum’s foundation was created at the parents’ request and at the suggestion of the jurist of the Ministry of Education. Vice director Viorica Bolocan said that things in the lyceum have visibly improved after Grigore Vasilache was named as director half a year ago. But the institution does not have a gymnasium and an eatery. “Don’t our students deserve a gymnasium and a canteen? We have parents who want to cooperate and to help us,” she stated.

In the conference, there was read the statement of Grigore Vasilache, which was presented in the general meeting of parents. The director reported how the money collected from parents was spent. He said that a mistake was made when the word ‘tax’, instead of ‘donation’, was written in the notices sent to parents.

Teacher Nicolae Lachi said the lyceum struggled hard to deal with all the challenges after the closing of the former parents’ association three years ago. The foundation was established without the director’s involvement. “We understand why this denigration campaign was launched. The lyceum’s buildings are very attractive. But we will be a monolith near our director,” he stated.

Parent Aliona Barca, who forms part of the foundation’s board, said the notices submitted to parents were informative in character, while the sums indicated there were approximate. Another parent said they decided to organize meetings with parents of students from all the grades, where to pronounce on the existence of this foundation in written form.

Teacher Tatiana Babuc-Mosoi showed the journalists the foundation registration certificate, saying the director insisted that everything should be transparent and every leu should be accounted for.

Last week, parents published on the Internet the notices by which they are told they must pay over 6,000 lei into the lyceum’s foundation. The Ministry of Education started an investigation into this case, as the National Anticorruption Center that already questioned a number of parents and teachers.
