The over 100 new tablet PCs intended for MPs will be delivered by the end of March. The Parliament’s secretary general Adrian Albu told a press briefing that the tablet PCs are needed for electronic voting and for the legislative process on the whole, IPN reports.
Adrian Albu reminded that an agreement for the implementation of the information system e-Parliament was signed with UNDP, which chose the implementing company. Nextsense is the developer of the software, while the value of the contract is almost US$434,000. The Government of Sweden provided over US$328,000 through UNDP.
An open tender contest to purchase tablet PCs was held on November 12 last year. The time limit for delivery was December 24. The contractor didn’t meet the deadline and the contract was terminated. A new tender contest was held and the company that offered the lowest price was chosen the winner.
Adrian Albu said it is important to realize that the tablet PCs are bought not for MPs, but for legislative work and will remain to be used by the next legislatures. He denied MPs’ accusations that public funds are wasted on tablet PCs and that these cost too much.
