Switzerland reiterates its commitment to implement the cooperation and development program with the Republic of Moldova and the wish to intensify cooperation in doing significant reforms. It hopes for the constitution of a new government that would serve the people’s interest and would endeavor to improve the living standards in the country and to ensure the prosperity of all the citizens, stated the Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine and Moldova with residence in Kiev Guillaume Scheurer, who is in Chisinau on an official visit during March 13-14, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Republic of Moldova said Ambassador Guillaume Scheurer had meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovski, chairwoman of the Central Election Commission Alina Russu and representatives of political forces and members of the diplomatic community.

The diplomat said Switzerland took note of the OSCE/ODIHR preliminary conclusions concerning the February 24 parliamentary elections, namely their competitive character and the overall observance of the fundamental rights. He shares international observers’ concerns about the witnessed violations and calls on the Moldovan authorities to analyze the situation so as to strengthen the democratic process in Moldova and increase confidence in the state institutions.

Guillaume Scheurer also said that Switzerland encourages the Republic of Moldova to follow the concrete recommendations of ODIHR from the preliminary report and other international recommendations, such as those of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

Switzerland has supported the political, social and economic transformations in the Republic of Moldova since 2000. Currently, Switzerland is the largest bilateral donor in the areas of health protection and culture in Moldova.
