An outbreak of African swine fever was recorded in the village of Domulgeni, Florești district, with four pigs in a household farm affected. The animals were slaughtered, the National Agency for Food Safety reported.

The district authorities have convened a commission for emergencies. “An epidemiological inquiry is underway, being carried out by a team of inspectors from the territorial subdivisions for food safety, in cooperation with other relevant authorities”, said the Agency.

The Agency also announced that the African swine fever restrictions introduced two weeks ago in Lozova, Strășeni district, have now been cancelled.

African swine fever is a highly contagious viral disease that is not a danger to human health, but spreads swiftly among domestic pigs and wild boars. If the virus is confirmed, the animals are slaughtered so as to prevent the spread of the disease.
