The $112 million rehabilitation of a 93 km segment of the M2 Road (Sarateni-Soroca) is nearing completion. Many parts of the road are already open, and the whole road is expected to be open later this year.
The rehabilitation of the M2 Road is part of the $262 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact Program sponsored by the United States of America, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, major improvements include a new, modern road surface expected to last for 20 years, replacement and modernization of bridges and drainage systems, installation of guardrails, sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, and other safety features, and construction of many new auxiliary roads in communities along the M2 Road.
