The Supreme Court of Justice turned down the Communist Party’s application to register the Communists’ electoral symbol for the November 11 local elections. The PCRM’s jurist Sergiu Sarbu said that they expected such a decision because the political influence is very great. “We will go to the ECHR,” the lawmaker has told Info-Prim Neo. “We are disappointed that the courts did not have the courage to take an objective decision. The candidates will thus have to run in the elections without the electoral symbol,” said Sergiu Sarbu. Four candidates representing the PCRM are running in the November 11 elections. The lawmaker also said he is sure that the ECHR will rule in their favor because there are precedents. For example, in 2008 the European Court of Human Rights convicted Hungary for fining a person who used a symbol that is banned in this country. On November 11, elections will take place in five settlements of Moldova.
