The demolition of the Gaudeamus Cinema in Chisinau is legal. The Supreme Court of Justice rejected the lawsuit filed by the mayor general of Chisinau municipality against Cristivlad SA concerning the legality of the demolition works. The decision is irrevocable, IPN reports.
The demolition works were authorized in 2016 and 2018. They were for several times suspended, being the subject of disputes amid protests mounted by civil society.
SA Cristivlad has held ownership rights over the Gaudeamus Cinema since 2004. In 2011, it also became the owner of the area adjoining the construction. As the cinema became unprofitable, the owner decided to demolish this and erect a new building there.
