Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin got the Supreme Council of Magistrates’ consent to taking legal action against a former judge of the Straseni Court, who is suspected of intentionally passing illegal decisions, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said the judge is suspected of taking decisions in breach of the law, enabling thus foreign citizens to obtain civil status documents needed for applying for Moldovan or Romanian nationality, with the state’s image at foreign level being seriously affected.

On October 23, 2012, based on unauthenticated copies of documents, the judge accepted the applications of six citizens of Russia. Some of these persons already obtained Moldovan nationality and were issued with Moldovan identity cards and passports.

Afterward, based on the decisions of the Chisinau Appeals Court of 2014, the decisions passed by the judge were annulled as illegal and the state-run Information Resources Center “Registru” initiated the procedure for withdrawing the nationality and annulling the issued identification papers.
