The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) said the providers now do not have permissive documents and do not test or exploit 5G networks and equipment on Moldova’s territory. It noted that it issued licenses to providers of mobile terrestrial electronic communications services and networks for bands used to provide electronic communications services under the 2G (GSM), 3G (UMTS) and 4G (LTE) technologies. The clarification was made “following fake news about the testing of 5G technology on the country’s territory,” IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Agency.

As regards the last generation 5G technology, the primary bands for the given technology are 700 MHz, 3400-3800 MHz and 24.25-27.5 GHz. The ANRCETI stated that it issued no license that would allow using such frequencies. “In 2019, some of the providers at public events for the first time presented the advantages and capacities of the new technology. Now the providers do not have permissive documents of the ANRCETI and do not test or exploit 5G networks and equipment on Moldova’s territory,” said the Agency.

In an informative note, the National Public Health Agency denies the public reports that allude to a connection between the implementation of the next generation of wireless technology 5G and the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The evolution of the pandemic is fully independent from the 5G technology and the assertions and postings distributed on social networks sites about the alleged connection between COVID-19 and the 5G technology is misinformation aimed at maintaining a state of confusion and panic that is harmful and spreads as swiftly as the novel coronavirus,” noted the Agency.

The WHO Country Office in Moldova posted on Facebook that the viruses cannot be transmitted via radio waves or mobile phone networks. COVID-19 spread also in countries where the 5G network wasn’t installed.
