Students and young people can visit the numismatic exhibition “Old coins – new coins” staged as part of the activities of the International Financial Education Week. The exhibition can be visited during March 18-24, 2024, at the National Museum of History of Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, the exhibition presents to the public monetary vestiges from ancient times found on the territory of Moldova by archaeologists or its inhabitants and which are part of the historical heritage of the country.

Visitors can see copper and silver coins of the Golden Horde, dating from the 13-14 centuries, issues of orts, a Polish thaler from the time of Emperor Sigismund III Wasa (1586-1632) and coins minted in the 16-17 centuries by the Roman-German Empire, the United Provinces and Spain. Among the archaeological values that can be seen by the public at the exhibition are also thalers of the German states and also thalers-lei issued by the United Provinces, considered by numismatic historiography the ancestors of the Moldovan leu.

This year’s edition of the International Financial Education Week also comes with workshops for students and young people interested in knowing financial concepts, how they can develop a personal budget and substantiate a financial decision. It started with an activity that had as protagonists students of the Chisinau Theoretical Lyceum “Aristotle”, who were invited to an interactive game of simulation of monetary policy decision-making, under the guidance of the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Anca Dragu. The head of the central bank will also come in front of students in the coming days, when explanatory sessions on monetary phenomena and other economic, financial or educational topics will be held.

Young people are expected to also visit the NBM’s exhibition hall during the week. Various workshops on financial topics will also be organized for them at the National Museum of History of Moldova, being part of the national campaign “Financial Education for All”, which is carried out by the NBM in partnership with the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup”, with the support of the USAID Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity.
