More than 100 communities in ten districts experienced power outages following the high winds of the evening of December 1. According to the preliminary information provided by the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, 27 communities were still disconnected from the power supply at 7am on December 2, IPN reports.

The given districts are Criuleni, Straseni, Orhei, Telenesti, Hancesti, Calarasi, Nisporeni, Anenii Noi, Cimislia and Stefan Voda. Teams of specialists are working at the scene to restore the power supply.

The strong winds also damaged roofs in a number of communities. In Bravicea village of Calarasi district, the wind destroyed the roof of the local kindergarten, while in Tibirica village of the same district – the roof of the secondary school. Roofs of houses were also damaged in the districts of Falesti, Anenii Noi, Causeni and Hancesti.

Local emergency commissions are assessing the damage caused by the wind. The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service warns the population not to touch downed electrical cables and to call the emergency services in situations of risk.

The State Hydrometeorology Service issued a yellow code advisory for high winds, with a speed of 17-22 per second, for December 1 and 2.
