The MPs gave a first reading to the bill to ratify the strategic partnership, trade and cooperation agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, IPN reports.

The agreement is aimed at promoting the good relations of cooperation between Moldova and the UK and shows the wish of the two states to ensure the continuity of dialogue in the post-Brexit period. The agreement regulates international cooperation and sets down sector cooperation benchmarks, including normative ones. The document is deigned to maintain after Brexit the free trade area instituted by the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and to realize the commercial and economic cooperation potential.

“The financial benefits deriving from the agreement can be assessed through the existence of the free trade area against the commercial rules applied under the aegis of the WTO. The implementation of this agreement will not imply financial obligations for the Republic of Moldova,” says the informative note to the document.

The strategic partnership, trade and cooperation agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was signed on December 24, 2020.
