The concept of strategic communication and countering of disinformation, information manipulation and foreign interference for 2024-2028 was adopted by the votes of 56 MPs, IPN reports.

The document designed by the Center for Strategic Communication and Combating of Disinformation defines the national interests, threats, risks, weaknesses and directions of action for ensuring national security and resilience. Strategic communication focuses on a number of central pillars, namely: European integration, social cohesion, economic resilience, strengthening of the defense sector and national security in the national context.

The MPs also adopted a draft decision concerning the structure of the Centre for Strategic Communication and Combating of Disinformation. A Government amendment was taken into account and the Centre’s staff limit was reduced to 20 units.

The parliamentary opposition criticized the concept, saying it demonstrates the government’s fierce desire to fully control the information space and create a parallel reality. “Information about failed reforms, obscure schemes in the energy system, the increase in the number of millionaires in the PAS ... will all be replaced by love for the party, hatred for the opposition, hybrid threats and the fight against disinformation. Any person who dares to disagree with this regime, self-proclaimed European, suddenly becomes an enemy who... I quote from the concept – undermines confidence in the European path of the Republic of Moldova and in state institutions. If you are not a declared pro-European – you are an enemy,” said MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Adela Răileanu.
