The public kindergarten in the village of Sireți, Strășeni district, was renovated thanks to a grant of more than $64,900 offered by the Government of Japan under the Kusanone Program. The project completion ceremony was attended by Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada.
“Kindergartens are where children first meet society outside their family. Their impact on children’s development is long-lasting. In Japan there is a saying: ‘What is acquired at the age of three is kept until the age of a hundred’. Japan helps schools and kindergartens around the world to be maintained in good condition through small-scale grants under the Kusanone Program. I am happy that such a project was implemented in your kindergarten and here we are today celebrating together”, said Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro.
The money was allocated for the renovation of the roof, the ventilation system and the concrete pavement around the building, along with the installation of a fire escape. Laundry equipment and furniture (beds, wardrobes, tables) were also bought.
According to the Embassy of Japan, the project contributed to creating optimal conditions for the educational process, ensuring the health and safety of the 130 children and 28 educators and technical staff from the kindergarten.
The human security grant program Kusanone was launched in Moldova in 2008. To date, Japan has provided over $7 million in grant funding for projects in education, health and public utilities.
