Stowaway fines rise from May 31

Persons travelling illegally will be liable to fines up to 200 lei after the updated Code of Administrative Offences takes effect on May 31. The law applies to stowaways on trains, urban buses and trolleybuses, intercity and international buses, as well as aboard ships. “The fines stipulated in the new code indicate their maximum value. Most probable that the fine for an illegal trip by trolleybus will range from 50 to 30 lei. But this is a matter for the Chisinau City Council to decide”, Gheorghe Morgoci, executive manager of the Chisinau Trolleybus Company, has told Info-Prim Neo. “If our request to raise the fare to 1.5 lei is approved, then the fine for the stowaways should cover the cost of 20 trips”, said Morgoci. Today the fine for travelling illegally by trolleybus is 6 lei. The fine for forging a travel ticket ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 lei.
