The stories of forty Ukrainian students who lost their lives in the fight for the freedom of their country are presented at an international exhibition titled “Unissued diplomas”, which also reached the Republic of Moldova. The project is a tribute to the young people silenced by Russia’s relentless war against Ukraine. The exhibition is an act of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and dignity. Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said that it is important to keep alive the concern for what is happening in Ukraine, as we did during the first days of the war, IPN reports.
“We should not forget about the sacrifice that the Ukrainians make every day, including for the security of the Republic of Moldova. We, two years after the beginning of the war, continue our lives, more or less, peacefully due to the courage, dedication, selflessness of the Ukrainian people, including due to the young people whose lives are presented in this exhibition,” stated Dan Perciun.
The European Union’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said that the European Union is on the side of truth and will continue to support Ukraine in the fight for its integrity. “For me, this exhibition is very moving because it is impossible not to be moved to see how many young lives have been destroyed by Russia’s unjustified military aggression against Ukraine. These students had dreams, which were eventually destroyed. The young people were fighting not only for the independence of their country, but also for the European values,” added Jānis Mažeiks.
“Forty images that are here in this room reflect the situation in which the whole of Ukraine found itself two years ago. Forty people fell, either in their homes, during evacuations, when they were trying to find a safer place, or on the front line, when they were trying to defend their country. All the 40 were students, from Kharkiv and Mariupol to Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odessa or Vinnytsia,” said Marko Shevchenko, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Moldova.
After its international launch in 2023, the exhibition “Unissued Diplomas” was presented in 24 countries and was hosted by more than 110 universities worldwide. During April and May, the exhibition will be presented in several universities of Moldova. Now it is hosted by the Moldova State University and will then reach “Alecu Russo” State University in Balti and “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” State University in Cahul.
