Next week the Republic of Moldova should receive the EU candidate status without any conditionality and Romania will help it to cover faster this road, Florin-Vasile Cîțu, President of the Senate of Romania, stated in a news conference held after the joint meeting of the Parliaments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. According to the official, the difficult path only starts, but Romania will stand by the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

Ion-Marcel Ciolacu, the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania, said that nothing and nobody can stay on Moldova’s way to the EU. On June 23 and 24, at the meeting of the European Council, when the EU member states will decide whether to grant the EU candidate status to Moldova or not, it will be a vote with political connotations too.

He assured that Moldova will not experience an energy crisis, either gas or electricity one. “It is Romania’s duty to stand by the Republic of Moldova,” stated Ion-Marcel Ciolacu.

Moldova’s Speaker Igor Grosu said that not even a frozen conflict can prevent Moldova’s integration into the EU. The Moldovan citizens from the left side of the Nistru in the last parliamentary and presidential elections voted in a different way.

He noted that the Moldovan authorities do not expect the EU accession process to be short. The Republic of Moldova needs to strengthen the state institutions and to show resilience in crises, to fight corruption and to reform the justice sector. “We will move fast, but not to the detriment of quality,” assured Igor Grosu.

After the joint meeting of the Parliaments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, there was signed a statement of the two legislative bodies. The statement represents a platform for cooperation in ensuring better living conditions for the citizens from the two sides of the Prut, noted Igor Grosu.
