The students and first-year residents of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu” will be able to travel home to vote in the runoff presidential elections at the University’s expense. Pro-rector Olga Chernetski has told IPN it is a decision that will ensure the right to vote of the students and residents.

According to the pro-rector, a part of the students and first-year residents haven’t yet obtained a residence visa in Chisinau. “They now remain outside the suffrage. Many of the students and residents came to the administration and asked if the University can pay for their trip to and from the native place as they do not have money to go and vote there. We then thought to identity internal resources to help them,” stated Olga Chernetski.

The pro-rector said the method by which the money will be provided hasn’t been yet decided, but the students and residents will have to prove that they indeed visited the native place on Election Day, like the round-trip ticket on public transport.
