The Government approved the regulations concerning the setting and paying of monthly scholarships to professional athletes, IPN reports.

The holders of golden medals won at Olympic and Paralympic Games will receive a monthly scholarship of 15,000 lei. Those who won silver at the Olympic and Paralympic Games will get 12,000 lei a month, while those who won bronze at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, silver at the World Championship or gold at the European Championship will receive 10,000 lei a month. The smallest scholarship, of 2,000 lei, will be given to athletes who took part in the last Olympic Games and to the winners of the second and third places at the European Juniors Championship.

The scholarships to Olympic and Paralympic medalists are offered for a period of four years, to medalists of World and European Championships and of the Summer World University Games that are held once in two years - for a two-year period, while to medalists of annual World and European Championships and to students who won medals at international championships – for a period of one year.

The scholarships can be annulled if the athlete withdraws from sports, is disqualified by the competent sports federation or is penalized for violating the anti-doping legislation.
