The state of public health emergency in the Republic of Moldova was extended until Jnauary 15, 2022, as the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission chaired by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița decreed, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the Commission decided to maintain the current restrictions nationwide, with the possibility of reviewing them depending on the epidemiological situation.

The Commission ascertained that the epidemiological situation remains extremely worrisome nationwide. During November 15 – 21, there were recorded 5,391 cases of COVID-19, 80% of which were among unvaccinated persons. The national full series vaccination coverage is lower than 27%.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, in most of the countries of the European region, the COVID-19 epidemiological situation has worsened and an upsurge in the new cases is witnessed. The countries with a low vaccination rate are the worst hit.
