State border has been crossed by 10 mln persons in 2006

In 2006, the state border of the Republic of Moldova has been crossed by about 10.3 mln persons and circa 2.1 mln transport units. Of these, about 6.6 mln persons and 1.2 mln transport units crossed the border with Ukraine, and more than 3 mln persons and about 830,000 transport units – the Romanian border. This data was made public by the Head of the Frontier Guard Service, Igor Colenov, within a session on summing up the activity in 2006, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Colenov, Border guards arrested 3,230 offenders in 2006 and discovered smuggled goods totalling MDL 4 mln. 1275 persons who attempted to illicitly cross the state border were arrested on the frontier guard sectors, as well as 569 who infringed the border regime. Almost daily, frontier guards discover persons who present fake, fabricated or other persons’ papers. In the mentioned period, inspectors of the border control arrested 1077 persons who tried to commit such illegalities, including 534 persons with fake papers, 132 – who have fabricated the passport’s validity term, 78 – who replaced the picture, 42 persons who were holding fake stay permits of EU member states and 168 foreign citizens who violated rules of staying in Moldova. In the same period, the staff of the Frontier Guard Service discovered over 27 kg of marijuana, 1,100 psychotropic pills, 10 hunting guns of different calibre and 122 bullets. Also, 309 persons and 32 transport units reported stolen have been arrested. Concomitantly, 162 attempts of passing goods, banned from being introduced or transported from the country have been registered, of which 73 transport means, 71 tobacco products lots, 11 consumer goods lots.
