Academician Stanislav Groppa says that he would accept to candidate for president in rerun elections if the Communist Party (PCRM) and the Opposition reach a compromise on this issue, Info-Prim Neo reports. “If the Opposition and the ruling party agree to hold a joint discussion with me to find a way out of the situation, I will again consider whether to accept to run for president or not,” Groppa told the journalists. “It is the option of the Communist MPs,” the academician said when asked how it happened that he won no vote, though 15MPs of the PCRM put him up for head of state. “I cannot comment on their decision. When they offered me to run, I accepted in order to propose a solution,” he added. “I proposed my own program with measures aimed at overcoming the crisis situation. I suggested thoroughly analyzing the situation in the country and then making decisions. As a doctor, I always say to myself that everything should be analyzed in detail,” the opponent of the former Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianii said. Stanislav Groppa stressed that he is a member of none of the parties, but a representative of the Moldovan people. He said he was supported by his patients and colleagues in his decision. “When my candidacy was announced, many of my patients and persons from all over the country called me and encouraged me, saying I took a right decision. I accepted not only the proposal of the Communist MPs. My colleagues, former and current MPs and even administrators of the University of Medicine urged me to run for president.” On May 20, the Parliament did not manage to elect the head of state. Zinaida Greceanii obtained 60 votes, being only one vote short for being elected. All the votes were cast by the Communist MPs. The Opposition did not take part in election. A new round of voting will be held on May 28. .
