Stahurskii: Moldova needs dictatorship of law

“Prime Minister Ion Chicu’s recent proposal to invite experts of the European Union to our country to bring things in the fiscal sector, the economy and other areas in order generated again questions as to our ability to solve the problems ourselves, Alexandr Stahurskii, of the Center for Strategic Studies and Reforms, said in IPN’s public debate “European integration during the pandemic: new opportunities or stagnation?”.

“We are trying again to shift our problems onto Missis Leyen or Missis Merkel,” added the expert.

Alexandr Stahurskii considers the dictatorship of law is the only solution in the case of Moldova. “Only with such dictatorship we can ensure the development process. When the law enforcement bodies protect our interests, when they establish who is right and who is to blame and do not do justice to the one who knows the prosecutor better, investments will start to come to Moldova, the business will develop and we could independently solve our problems that now make our society stagnate,” he noted.

Now the situation develops according to the old scenarios. “The political groups compete again for the post of “beloved wife” of Brussels. But in the EU they know very well Moldovan officials’ and politicians’ stratagems: they come, ask, promise and then do not fulfill their promises,” stated the expert.

The public debate “European integration during the pandemic: new opportunities or stagnation?” was staged in the framework of the project “Overcoming stereotypes of European integration by communication” that is implemented by IPN with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
