President Maia Sandu transmitted a congratulatory message to national sports champions. The official said the sportspeople are the real ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova and they are the pride of the country, IPN reports. “We are thrilled at the accomplishments of our athletes and realize that sports must be supported,” stated Maia Sandu.

“On Wednesday, Muay Thai (Thai boxing) wrestler Artiom Livadari returned home with a gold medal from the European Games held in Krakow-Malopolska. This is the first gold for Moldova in the history of the three editions of this prestigious sports event. I congratulate Artiom Livadari and his coaches Andrei Grosu and Vlad Dima,” says the President’s message.

Maia Sandu also mentioned the results achieved by the Greco-Roman wrestlers at the European Juniors Wrestling Championships held in Santiago de Compostela, in Spain. Alexandru Solovei became European champion, while Vitalie Yeryomenko and Rostislav Coval won silver in their weight classes. “I also praise and congratulate the coaches of the national squad Vladimir Yurko, Roman Zgardan, Sergei Tymko and Mihail Cucul on the remarkable achievements of their pupils,” noted the official.

Last year, Parliament voted to double the scholarships of professional athletes who achieve results at world and European championships. The legislative body will soon adopt a bill by which the sports federations and clubs will be allowed to benefit from 2% of the income tax transferred by taxpayers.
