The organizers of the annual arts, alternative and ecological culture festival Art-Labyrinth bring the spirit of Africa by a series of concerts that will be staged in a number of communities in Moldova. The main guest of the concert will be the band “Tamala” from Mali, which plays traditional music of the “Mandeng” culture of West African people. The activities form part of the cultural project “Promoting intercultural dialogue by Arts and Culture” that was launched at the Casa Zemstvei museum on May 11, IPN reports.

Alexandr Voroniuc, one of the organizers who represents the public association “Art-Labyrinth”, said the first concert will be held in Ciolacul Nou village of Falesti district on May 13. Besides “Tamala”, performances will also be given by national bands. Concomitantly, there will be staged a fair, a fire show, African drums and dances workshops and other events. Similar concerts will be held in Balti and in Chisinau. The concert in Chisinau will take place at the Eugene Ionescu Theater on May 24.

Alexandr Voroniuc related that he became acquainted with “Tamala” while on a trip in Africa. The events in Chisinau are something more exotic, an energy emanated by a culture that is different from the European one. “Tamala” combines the traditional south and rhythm with the own arrangements of the musicians.

Petru Vicol, director of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, said the museum leases out rooms to the association and they established nice cooperation relations, the team of “Art-Labyrinth” taking part with musical projects in the previous editions of the European Night of Museums. The African band “Tamala” will perform at this year’s edition, the recital of traditional West African music being part of the program dedicated to the International Museum Day. The concert will be given at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History starting at 9pm on May 19.

The events will culminate with the eleventh arts, alternative and ecological culture festival Art-Labyrinth that will take place in Edinet district, not far from Fetesti village, during June 23 – July 1.

The event is organized by “Art-Labyrinth” with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and
Cooperation.
