The Capital Constructions Department will announce a public bid to evacuate the mud from Valea Morilor, according to a decision taken by the Chisinau Municipal Council on Thursday, March 15. Interim mayor of Chisinau Veaceslav Iordan informed the municipal councillors that he decided a month ago to stop the works related to the evacuation of the mud from the lake, because there was no project on the works. According to the mayor, about MDL 870 thousand were spent so far. The Municipal Councillor created a committee which will analyse the situation occurred at Valea Morilor, particularly who allowed the evacuation of water and mud without a project. The same committee will examine the method used when the clearing works were performed. Veaceslav Iordan said that investment contests will be organised for refitting Valea Morilor. They include the construction of a hotel and restaurant. The evacuation of water and mud from Valea Morilor Lake started on October 27, being performed by the Green Spaces Management Association. An order in this respect was signed by the former interim mayor Vasile Ursu. According to it, the works had to be carried out according to the provisions of the action plan on the general development of the territory in Valea Morilor Park, approved via a Government Decision, and was included in the priority public projects for the development of Chisinau. The idea of reconstructing Valea Morilor and evacuation of the mud was promoted after last summer’s incident, when because of the thick layer of mud and lack of oxygen in the water, about 3 tonnes of fish died. The City Hal of Chisinau together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resource proposed to evacuate the water and the mud form the lake, and cover the ground of the lake with granite slabs. “Valea Morilor” Park and the lake were set up in 1952. The area of the entire zone constitutes 102 hectares, of which the lake has 36 hectares.
