The phased indexation of Soviet-era deposits with the defunct Banca de Economii (BEM) is continuing. Depositors born in 1991 or before will receive this year the amounts due under the first indexation stage, and those born in 1947 or before the amounts due under the second stage, as decided today by the Cabinet.
For this purpose, a total 50 million lei was provided in the state budget.
Deposits are indexed under a law adopted in December 2012. In the first stage, depositors are refunded 1,000 lei for the first 1,000 Soviet rubles. In the second stage, for any amount over 1,000 Soviet rubles depositors get 1 leu for every 2.5 rubles.
The refunds can be collected at any Moldova Mail branch.
