Solemn sitting of Parliament on Flag Day

The State Flag Day will be marked in Chisinau by a number of events entitled “Tricolor at its 25th anniversary”. On April 27, Parliament will hold a solemn sitting that will be attended by the head of state, the Prime Minister, Moldova’s first President, ministers, diplomats, MPs of the first Parliament and other officials. The designer of the coat of arms and of the national currency Gheorghe Vrabie will also be present at that sitting, IPN reports.

According to the legislature’s press service, an exhibition of flags will be mounted in the hall of the Parliament Building. It will be open to the public on April 27 - 30, between 2pm and 4pm. The exhibits belong to collector Petru Costin, whose works were included in the Guiness World Records Book.

In the evening of April 27, starting at 7pm, the Presidential Orchestra will give a recital in the square before the Parliament Building. The Chisinau Youth Orchestra will perform starting at 8pm. For the first time, there will be staged a light show. The Parliament Building will be illuminated from outside in the colors of the tricolor.

On April 21-27, Parliament is holding a drawing contest for students from different districts of the country. The drawings will be exhibited in the hall of the Parliament Building on April 30. On April 27-30, there will be staged trips through the Parliament Building for young people. MPs will tell the visitors about their work and the lawmaking process.

The State Flag Day was instituted on April 23, 2010. The tricolor became the State Flag on April 27, 1990.
