The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” staged a grandiose solemn festivity on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its foundation. High-ranking officials, representatives of international institutions, ambassadors and ministers congratulated the teachers and students. The event was preceded by a flashmob meeting in front of the National Place “Nicolae Sulac”, where the festivity was held, IPN reports.

The history of the University “Nicolae Testemitanu” started in 1945, when the Institute of Medicine from Kislovodsk was transferred to Chisinau together with all the students and teaching staff, under the name of the State Institute of Medicine. “The higher medical education of Moldova has a short history compared with the multi-century traditions of the world medical education, but it is very valuable owing to its impact on the socioeconomic and cultural life of the country. The University “Nicolae Testemitanu” is a model of good practices for the countries from the former Soviet area and from the Black Sea region too,” said the institution’s rector Ion Ababii.

At the solemn ceremony, the University was awarded the Order of the Republic by President Nicolae Timofti, while a number of lecturers received diplomats of honor of the first, second and third degrees from the Government. “It is well known that “Nicolae Testemitanu” University occupies a special place among the national higher education establishments and is recognized at international and regional levels. A lot of doctors who studied at this institution make Moldova famous abroad. Today we can say with pride that this University is a visiting card of the country,” said Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet.

Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan promised she will be making effort to create the University Hospital. “You, the professors, made a personal investment in the health system of Moldova. The human resources in healthcare that were ‘raised’ at this University are the treasury of the medical system,” she stated.

The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” is a scientific, curative and cultural university, post-university residency and continuous formation training center for doctors and pharmacists.
