The role of the Moldovan diaspora in Germany is great. It is that cultural diplomacy community that promotes the values and traditions in the host country, Moldova’s Ambassador to Germany Aureliu Ciocoi said in an event staged by the Society of Moldovans in Germany in the evening of October 10.

“During 10 years, the Moldovans from Germany managed to assert themselves and to integrate with the German society. Unlike other diasporas in Germany, the Moldovan nationals are more flexible and easier adjust themselves to the realities and way of life in this country,” said Aureliu Ciocoi.

The event centered on the results achieved by the Society of Moldovans in Germany during 10 years of work. One of the most important social assistance projects was the foundation of a boarding house for orphans and children with disabilities in Visoca village of Soroca district. The project is financed mainly with donations collected in Germany.

“It’s not easy to promote Moldova’s image in Germany because we are not very well-known. Our country is not large and we thus make effort to show the kindness and amiability of the Moldovan people by the events we stage here. Surely, things move on slowly, but I think time will come when we will become known in the European countries,” said the Society’s head Angela Mutruc.

The Society of Moldovans in Germany was founded on October 10, 2004 by seven members. Its main task is to promote the coexistence between Moldovans and Germans and to ensure the cultural exchange between the two countries. According to the data provided by the Embassy of Moldova in Berlin, about 12,000 Moldovans live at present in Germany.
