The Socialist MPs suggest that the local general elections should be held on June 7. They asked including such an initiative in the Parliament’s agenda for March 19, IPN reports.

The Socialists made reference to the relevant practice of the legislative body: in 2003 Parliament set local elections for May 25; in 2007 – for June 3, while in 2011– for June 5. “Our faction demands that the lawmakers should vote such a decision. We consider the local general elections must take place on June 7,” said Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea.

According to the Socialists, the local public administration reform, to which the parliamentary majority makes reference, is not a reason for postponing the elections. No concrete arguments why this reform wasn’t done earlier and how the local elections could hinder this reform are provided. Any attempt to delay the elections can be considered usurpation of the state power.

The Socialists’ legislative initiative concerning the date of the local elections wasn’t included in the agenda because of the shortage of votes.
