Smoldering cigarette kills again

Another person lost his life because of a lit cigarette. A man, aged 46, died smoke-intoxicated, in a fire provoked by a cigarette smoked in bed. According to the head of the Press centre of the Department of Exceptional Situations, Alexandru Oprea, the killing fire occurred on Thursday, October 19, at 14.30 in a house in Radoaia village, Singerei. The owner was inebriated and fell asleep holding a lit cigarette which produced the inflammation of the bedclothes. Also on Thursday, Falesti firemen succeeded in localizing a fire that broke out in a grain collecting centre from the Marculesti village, which started because of infringing rules when operating soldering works. They succeeded in saving 1,400 tonnes of wheat and 8,000 tonnes of sun-flower seeds as well as equipment estimated at MDL 20,000. Over the past 24 hours, 6 fires have been registered in the Republic of Moldova. Since the beginning of the year 1957 fires produced creating 181 casualties including 11 children.
