From March 1, 2025, micro and small farmers in Moldova will be able to benefit from a new financial product, which offers them loans with a preferential rate of 5.1% and a grant component of up to 30%. The authorities say that the program also provides flexible repayment terms of up to five years, and if necessary, beneficiaries can access state guarantees through the ODA Guarantee Fund, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the funding is intended for the purchase of agricultural equipment, post-harvest processing and to cover some operational costs. For example, farmers can get up to 2 million lei for conventional agricultural equipment, with a 5% non-reimbursable grant, or up to 5 million lei for post-harvest processing equipment, where 30% of the amount can be covered by the grant.
It also mentions that in order to access these loans, farmers need to apply to commercial banks in the country, where they will receive all the necessary details and start the application process.
The program is carried out by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Ministry of Finance and the Office for the Management of External Assistance Programs.
