The Slovak authorities support the idea that Moldova should be offered the perspective of joining the European Union, and announce the intention to open an Embassy in Chisinau, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said in a press release on the occasion of Minister Iurie Leanca's visit to Bratislava.
During the visit, Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák assured Iurie Leanca that Moldova can further count on Slovakia's full support in the Moldova-EU dialogue on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and on the visa liberalization Action Plan.
The Slovak authorities will also continue to transfer EU integration experience to Moldovan agencies. In this regard, the parties agreed to hold meetings of the Bilateral Commission on European Integration and of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Commercial Cooperation, in Chisinau, in the course of 2013.
In this context, Iurie Leanca welcomed the decision of the Slovak Government to open and Embassy in Moldova and appreciated the commitments made by the Slovak authorities to supporting reforms in Moldova and advancing dialogue with the EU. Minister Leanca also expressed recognition for the assistance offered to our country through Slovakia's aid agency.
Recently, Štefan Füle, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, said that Moldova deserved to be offered the perspective of EU membership in recognition of its solid pace of reforms. A number of EU member countries welcomed the idea.
