A six-year-old lost his life because of an unauthorised building site. The accident occurred on Wednesday, August 15, on Columna Street where a block of concrete fell from the fifth flour of an unauthorised construction on a house nearby, destroying its roof, which collapsed on the child.
The case was made public by Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca at a news conference. According to him, the police bodies and the prosecutor’s office investigate the case and the guilty persons will be held answerable.
The mayor says that the local authorities promise to support financially the family which suffered from the accident, including in what concerns the money for the funerals and repairs.
The Mayor mentioned that although he has repeatedly asked the district heads to locate the unauthorised constructions in order to avoid such cases, the Rascani District Office, which is responsible for this building, says it did not know anything about the construction.
The owner of the five-storied building obtained the urbanism certificate from the City Hall in 2004, but did not manage to receive the construction authorisation. However, during one year and a half the building was under construction without the required documents.
