Six mobile offices were provided to the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova by the USAID Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity. These are intended for the Leova-Bumbăta border crossing point and include essential IT equipment and furniture. The announcement was made in a news conference, IPN reports.
Laura Hruby, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, welcomed the creation of a new connection between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, noting that this new customs post will help to fluidize traffic. “The United States committed itself to cooperate with the Government and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova so as to build a democratic, prosperous and safe future. Today we see a concrete example of the way in which the Moldovan-American partnership enhances Moldova’s prosperity. This route will become an essential point of access for regional trade with the European Union and will help Moldova to fulfill its vision to be an important transit corridor. When the border crossing point is fully operational for trucks, we will have the shortest route between many regions of Ukraine and the European Union. Over 830,000 citizens have now an alternative and convenient border crossing point, while traffic was balanced by reducing the flow at the Leușeni-Albița and Cahul-Oancea customs post,” said Laura Hruby.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean thanked the partners for their support, noting that the Government of the Republic of Moldova, together with the Government in Bucharest, will continue to extend the interconnection infrastructure.
“The international border crossing point will become a center of transit and will attract investment for local communities, generating new jobs this way. We are grateful to the U.S. partners for the assistance in implementing this project and in acquiring modern mobile offices. We will continue, together with the authorities in Bucharest, to extend the road, railway, communications and energy infrastructure,” stated Dorin Recean.
The mobile offices donated through the USAID Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity consist of four working posts that are fully outfitted with furniture and the necessary equipment, including computers, printers and the minimum needed for comfort.
