The Security and Information Service (SIS) has announced that it took note of the information according to individuals last week attempted to corrupt MPs by offering them money to leave the parliamentary groups of which they form part and to join a new political force, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the SIS says it took measures to discover, prevent and combat possible acts of corruption that can weaken the security of the state.

On a social networking site last week, Democratic MP Valentina Stratan said she was contacted by an individual who told her that a new faction would be formed in Parliament, consisting of lawmakers who would defect from the PLDM, PDM and PLR. She was offered large sums of money so that she joined the new faction. Valentina Stratan said it wasn’t the first time that she heard about this new political force.

Afterward, a number of MPs, including the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu and head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet, confirmed that they know about such attempts. They said that these attempts are aimed at hindering the signing and then the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU.
