The simple motion concerning the policies in education and the activities of the Ministry of Education and Minister Maia Sandu, proposed by the Communist parliamentary group, didn’t collect the necessary number of votes. Only 32 MPs, of the Communist faction and of the Dodon group, voted for it, IPN reports.
When questioned in Parliament, the minister said that according to the preliminary results of the 2013 Baccalaureate session, about 60% of the candidates took the exams. “We must consider this result as a step towards Moldova’s moral future. But this figure also shows that there are serious problems in the education system,” stated Maia Sandu.
She also said that though cheating wasn’t definitively removed in the current Baccalaureate session, Moldova is on the right way. “There are real prospects for improving the quality of education. Today we can say that the measures started to make a difference. Most of the students had a correct behavior in the exams. We cannot say that we fully removed cheating, but we are on the right way,” said the minister.
According to Maia Sandu, Moldova faces a crisis of authentic values, while the exam results reveal the situation in the country. The Ministry of Education will put forward proposals for the next year so as to prevent the publication of the exam answers on the Internet, as it happened this year.
The Communist MPs said that the results of the Baccalaureate exams this year are the worst in Moldova’s history. According to Inna Supac, the results show that the policies pursued by the government since 2009 are ineffective. She added that the Baccalaureate centers turned into detention places, instead of being creation places.
Her colleague Todua Zurabi said that the candidates were put in conditions of enormous psychological stress. The measures implemented by the Ministry turned out to be inefficient as corruption in the exams didn’t disappear.
IPN notes that a simple motion is adopted by a majority of votes and expresses the Parliament’s position on a certain issue, being mandatory for the Government or other authorities involved.
