Two years ago, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova chose their representatives in Parliament. The people voted for particular parties, with particular platforms and electoral promises, but a massive migration process followed. The authors of a new article on sic.md, which is accompanied by an animated video clip, analyzed the current composition of the legislature, which, according to them, does not correspond to the election results.

The Party of Communists, which won 21 seats, now has only seven MPs. Fourteen ex-Communist MPs formed the Social-Democratic platform and are part of the government.

The Liberal Democratic Party won 23 seats, but its parliamentary group now consists of only nine MPs. Two formed another party, the European People’s Party, while 12 are unaffiliated, but vote together with the government.

MP Lidia Lupu defected from the Socialist group to the group led by Democratic MP Marian Lupu. Overall, the current government benefitted from the migration of 25 MPs, which is one fourth of all the MPs.

“An increasing number of experts say the tendency will only accentuate this spring. From election suntil now, the people’s confidence in Parliament has decreased vertiginously (November 2014 – 24%, March 2015 – 11%, November 2015 – 6%, April 2016 – 7%, November 2016 – 6%),” say the authors of the article.
