Showcasing EU Programs at International Mayors Summit 2024

The International Mayors Summit 2024 is set to demonstrate the transformative power of European Union programs and funding in modernizing cities and communities. Organized in Dănceni, Moldova, on April 11, the Summit will bring together city leaders from across Europe and the neighborhood to share success stories and insights into leveraging EU support for local development.

, Founder of the IMS, emphasized the importance of this dialogue: “Both Ukraine and Moldova are navigating their journey towards EU membership, entailing profound local implications. Showcasing the path to integration and the opportunities it offers to cities is pivotal. We're facilitating critical connections between local leaders and EU representatives to share experiences and explore future prospects.”

The session dedicated for Regional efforts for EU Membership will be attended by Slawomir Tokarski, Director for the European Territorial Cooperation, Macro-regions, Interreg and Programme Implementation I at the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, along with panelists including Teofil Gherca, URBACT Secretariat Director, and Oksana Remiga, Senior Loan Officer at the European Investment Bank, will discuss the significant role of EU programs in urban transformation. The panel will also feature practical experiences from Ciprian Ciucu, Mayor of the 6th district of Bucharest (RO), Mihai Jurca, City Manager of Oradea (RO), and Piotr Grzybowski, Deputy Mayor of Częstochowa (PL), moderated by Taras Byk of the NGO Agency for Recovery and Development (UA).

The Summit aims to illustrate the potential of EU funding and programs in catalyzing local development, offering a unique platform for mayors and community leaders to engage with EU officials and learn from the experiences of their counterparts in EU member states.

Organized by the Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF) and supported by partners including Primaria Mea, Comunitatea Plus, CIPE, and Cities 4 Cities, the International Mayors Summit 2024 stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit driving urban renewal and community well-being.
