Sheriff secured its 16th title of champion one stage before the end of the national football championship. The team from Tiraspol beat second-ranked Milsami Orhei 2-0 away, IPN reports.
Belarusian halfback Yury Kendysh scored both of the goals during the first 15 minutes of the game. Milsami had a number of occasions for scoring in the second half, but could not profit from these.
“It wasn’t an easy championship. We are happy and will celebrate today. But tomorrow we will start to train for the encounter with Zlin of the UEFA Europa League,” said the coach of Sheriff Roberto Bordin.
“Despite the problems faced at the start of the championship, we had a very good season. I’m proud of my team,” stated the coach of Milsami Veaceslav Rusnac.
The other matches of the last but one stage ended as follows: Dacia - Petrocub 0-2, Zaria - Dinamo-Auto 6-0, Zimbru - Spicul 1-1 and Speranta - Sfantul Gheorghe 0-0.
