Sheriff Tiraspol has won Moldova’s Super Cup for the sixth time in its history. In the final, the team trained by Lilian Popescu beat champion Milsami Orhei 3-1, IPN reports.

The goals were scored by Potiguar (4th minute), A.Macritski (9th), Kadu (34th) and, respectively, Bud (22nd). Sheriff could have won by the score, but the top scorer of the last championship Ricardinho missed a penalty in the second half.

“It is only the first match of the season and I’m glad that we had a good game. This inspires hope that we will perform well in the European cups,” Sheriff coach Lilian Popescu, who won his first trophy as a coach, told a news conference. Alexei Coshelev, Andrei Novicov, Seydu Yaya, Vyaceslav Sharpar, Ivan Jugovic and Ivan Crnov made their debut for Sheriff in this game.

“We were champions, but I told my players that our opponents from now will play more purposefully against us. We must thoroughly analyze this defeat,” said the coach of Milsami Iurie Osipenco.

The National Division competition opens on July 25. It is not yet known how many teams will take part in the new season.
