Sheriff Tiraspol thrashed 3-0 the reigning champions Milsami Orhei in the derby of the National Division's 5th matchday. Last season's top scorer, Brazilian attacker Ricardinho, netted a brace in the first half, while Swiss forward Danijel Subotic established the final score for Sheriff's home win on 56 minutes, IPN reports.
“I thank our fans for this victory. It was an entertaining game, with beautiful goals”, Sheriff coach Lilian Popescu said after the match.
“We lacked passion in this game. We probably consumed it all during the last game in the Europa League. Sheriff wanted the victory more”, admitted Milsami's coach, Iurie Osipenco.
Sheriff now climbed to 2nd place, one point behind rivals Zimbru. The two teams will meet next week, on August 29, in Chisinau.
Meanwhile, Zaria obtained their first win of the season, beating bottom side Saxan 3-1, Dacia got a 1-0 win over Academia and Petrocub-Hancesti bested Dinamo-Auto 2-1.
